 Why was Second Chance Partners Created?
When observing the overall population of high school students, one must admit that the one-size-fits-all model does not work. A significant group of students is not being properly served in the traditional college prep educational track; neither should they be assigned to programs designed for students with disruptive, cognitive or behavioral issues.
 What qualities do prospective Second Chance Partners candidates possess?
Prospective students must have attended high school for at least 2 years, be credit deficient and at least 16 years old.
 What is Second Chance Partners for Education?
Second Chance Partners is a non-profit organization created to provide an alternative educational model for students who are not achieving success in a traditional education setting. The model is a 21 consecutive month program that links real world learning to the workplace.
 Where does the program operate?
The location of SCP is the most noticeable difference when compared to traditional schools and even alternative education. SCP is placed entirely within the facilities of partner businesses and operates according to their calendar.
 What is the timeline of the program?
Students start the program the fall of their junior year and participate continuously until May of their senior year.
Businesses:
 How many hours per day will the students be working on production?
Students participate in classroom instruction for approximately two hours per day. The remaining six hours of their day consist of youth apprenticeship on-the-job training and production work.
 How long will the students be apprentices of my company?
Students begin the Second Chance program in the fall of their junior year and attend consecutively for 21 months; completing the program in May of their senior year. Throughout the 21 months, the students rotate among the partnered businesses. The rotations occur approximately every 7 months providing a work experience component and a real world connection to the curriculum being studied.
Do I have to pay for students during the months of rotation to other businesses?
No, you only have to pay for the students when they are working at your business.
 How early can the students start work?
Under the Wisconsin Youth Apprenticeship Guidelines students cannot start work earlier than 7:00am.
Parents:
 Can my child still go to a four year college?
Yes, several of the Second Chance Partners' graduates have gone on to attend four year colleges.
 Who is responsible for transportation?
Students and parents are responsible for the transportation of the students to the business locations.
 Will I receive a report card for my child?
Parents and school districts receive a monthly report on the academic and workplace skills progress of the student. Upon completion of the program, a Second Chance transcript, which evaluates students according to their performance levels in both their academic studies and their workplace skills, is provided to the high school.
 What is the cost?
In addition to the local high school registration fees, Second Chance Partners holds families responsible for the cost of field trips, the student laptop and transportation expenses..
How long is the program?

 Do the teachers have specialized training?
Second Chance Partners employs state certified teachers licensed in content areas and alternative education. The teachers facilitate the learning of core academics.
 Can my child still be involved in sports?
When a student becomes a part of Second Chance, they continue enrollment at their high school and have the privileges of any other student enrolled in that high school. If their daily schedule allows for participation, they may take part in other school activities.
 Will my child participate in graduation at their high school?
Yes, your student will be able to participate in their high school graduation.
 What are my options if my child's school district isn’t a partner?
If the school district that your child is currently enrolled in is not a partnered school district, please contact the school counselor.
