New Business and Education Partnership Coming to Green Bay

The Green Bay Area Public School District Board approved a partnership with Second Chance Partners for Education, a nonprofit that operates an alternative high school program based in the manufacturing environment.

Second Chance Partners (SCP) will open its Green Bay Education Center at Lindquist Machine Corporation in January 2012.  Students are placed at other area business partners for work experience and mentorship.

SCP is an alternative work-based learning program that meets state education standards while providing relevant work experience within a manufacturing setting. The Program offers academically disengaged juniors and seniors an opportunity to earn their high school diploma, technical college credits and youth apprenticeship certification.

"Teaming with the Second Chance Partners for Education Program will bring a unique opportunity to our students and our district,” said Tom Blankenheim, associate director of alternative programs with the Green Bay Area Public School District. “Connecting our students and our schools to local manufacturers is a great benefit to our entire community."

During this unique 21 consecutive month program students engage in an integrated work and learning experience.  “We can offer a worthwhile training and job exposure to these young people and give them the opportunity to learn about careers that they would find rewarding,” said Ken Carter, president of EDL Packaging Engineers, Inc. in Green Bay.  “Business must meet the challenge of filling the talent pipeline.”

“We are excited to partner with the Green Bay Area Public School District and the opportunity to serve students and parents, as well the business community,” said Stephanie Borowski, executive director of Second Chance Partners. “Our program gives students an opportunity to earn their high school diploma, manufacturers a chance to invest in their future workforce, and helps communities create young citizens positioned for successful careers and lives.”
